IMPA welcomes applications for volunteers for the 4th edition of FestMat
Event takes place from August 27 to 30 at Marina da Glória in Rio de Janeiro
The 4th edition of the National Mathematics Festival (FestMat) has already been scheduled and promises to broaden the reach of mathematics to audiences of all ages. Organized by IMPA (Institute of Pure and Applied Mathematics), the event will take place at Marina da Glória, in the south of Rio de Janeiro, between 27 and 30 August.
As every year, volunteers are an essential part of the event. Students, professionals from different fields and anyone who believes in the transformative power of education can sign up until April 10 via the Festival’s website.
Since its creation, the National Mathematics Festival has brought together more than 53,000 visitors and has established itself as one of the main events for the dissemination of mathematics in the country. FestMat presents mathematics that is lively, creative and connected to the transformations of the contemporary world, as well as bringing science closer to society’s daily life.
What to expect from the 4th edition of FestMat
This year, the National Mathematics Festival will be even bigger: the public will be able to enjoy four days of programming. The expansion reinforces the growth of the event and the expectation of receiving an even more diverse audience.
The full program will be announced soon, but the public can expect interactive activities, experiments, exhibitions, lectures and round tables that show mathematics in a creative, accessible and innovative way. There will also be two days dedicated to school visits.
How to sign up to volunteer
To apply, you must be 18 years old and available during the days of the event. The volunteers selected will work to support the activities, welcome the public, organize the workshops and support the teams, among other duties. All the information on requirements, benefits and duties is available in the regulations and the volunteer handbook, available here.
Participating as a volunteer is an opportunity to go behind the scenes of a major science communication event, exchange experiences with people from different backgrounds and contribute directly to bringing mathematics closer to society.
