IMPA Tech, UESPI and UFPI sign partnership during event in Teresina
During his visit to Piauí, Marcelo Viana also visited the IMPA Tech Nordeste construction site
On Monday (18), IMPA Tech, the State University of Piauí (UESPI) and the Federal University of Piauí (UFPI) signed a protocol of intent aimed at cooperation in the academic, scientific and technological fields. The signing took place during the VI Brazilian Congress of Young Researchers in Pure, Applied and Statistical Mathematics (CBJME), held in Teresina.
“The signing of the terms of cooperation with UFPI and UESPI represents an important step in the implementation of IMPA Tech Nordeste. The academic partnership with these two institutions gives us access to the capacity developed in Teresina in the areas of mathematics, computing and artificial intelligence for the success of the project,” explained IMPA’s director-general, Marcelo Viana.
The event continues until Thursday (21) in Teresina, bringing together researchers, teachers and students from different regions of the country. IMPA is taking part in the program with researchers João Pedro Ramos and Marcelo Campos, as well as the institute’s director-general, Marcelo Viana, who took part in the round table “Mathematics, Statistics, Artificial Intelligence and Technological Innovation”.
Visit to IMPA Tech Northeast
On Tuesday (19), Marcelo Viana, Manuela Cervo, the directorate’s chief of staff, and Diogo Seixas, the institute’s facilities coordinator, visited the construction site of the future IMPA Tech Nordeste, the institute’s new undergraduate unit which will be located in Tech Park Piauí, in Teresina. The space will be located in the old Antonino Freire Training Center building, in the Matinha neighborhood.

The degree course will be able to accommodate up to 50 students a year, with priority given to medal winners from knowledge Olympics, such as the Brazilian Public School Math Olympics (OBMEP), a model already adopted by IMPA Tech in Rio de Janeiro.
“It was a long-term dream to open a unit in the Northeast region and circumstances have allowed it to happen here in Teresina, thanks to the support of state governor Rafael Fonteles. IMPA Tech Nordeste will make it possible to train young people from the state, the region and the whole of Brazil in areas such as mathematics, data science, artificial intelligence, robotics and computing, preparing highly qualified professionals for the technology and innovation market,” said Viana.
