IMPA Tech Extension
IMPA Tech Extension promotes integration between the university and society through the practical application of scientific and technological knowledge generated by teaching and research at our institution. Our activities involve students, teachers and external partners in initiatives that seek to generate social impact.
The activities are the responsibility of the Internationalization and Extension Coordination (CIE). Questions and suggestions can be sent to extensao@impatech.edu.br.

Q: What are IMPA Tech’s outreach activities?
A: These are academic initiatives that connect teaching and research with the demands of society, through projects, courses, events and partnerships.
Q: Who can take part in extension activities?
A: The activities are open to the general public, but each activity has its own entry forms and periods. See the list of activities below to find out more.
Q: How can external institutions collaborate?
A: Partnerships can be established by proposing joint projects or participating in existing initiatives, through coordination with IMPA Tech.
Q: Do the activities generate certificates?
A: Yes, activities carried out within the scope of IMPA Tech and approved institutionally can generate certificates for the organizers and participants.
General Instructions
For students:
- Complete a minimum of 310 hours as an organizer throughout the course.
- During registration periods, request that your hours be recorded on your academic transcript
- Guarantee supporting documentation for the activities carried out.
For teachers:
- Proposing and registering activities in the institutional system.
- Ensure adherence to the extension guidelines(CNE/CES Resolution No. 7/2018).
- Submit the periodic reports and the final report.
- In the reports, please indicate who the student organizers are and what their course loads are.
- Accompanying and guiding the students involved.

Chinese Language Course (in partnership with the PUC-Rio Confucius Institute)

The Chinese Language Course promotes the teaching of Mandarin and the dissemination of Chinese culture, strengthening IMPA Tech’s internationalization and multicultural environment. Taught in person by a native-speaking instructor on campus, the course connects students with the external community, broadening their academic and professional development within the global scientific and technological landscape.

Axiom

The Axioma project aims to identify young people with a strong interest and aptitude for mathematics and to foster the development of their logical and mathematical skills. Aimed at students enrolled in cycles 2 and 3 of Basic Education, the project consists of offering free advanced mathematics courses focused on content that goes beyond the traditional curriculum. The activities are divided into two formats: 40-hour mini-courses focused on specific, independent topics, and 80-hour intensive courses focused on structured and interrelated content.

1st IMPA Tech Undergraduate Colloquium

The 1st IMPA Tech Undergraduate Colloquium is a mathematics event organized and managed by the institution’s own students. With free admission, the initiative aims to promote integration with the external community—including high school and undergraduate students from other institutions—to foster academic dialogue and expand access to high-quality scientific content. The event provides an opportunity to exchange experiences and highlight the educational focus of the Bachelor’s Degree in Mathematics in Technology and Innovation, and is scheduled to take place from December 7 to 11, 2026.

Prototyping and Design of Educational Materials for the Popularization of Mathematics

The goal of this outreach project is to develop an experimental prototype of a playful mathematics teaching resource aimed at the general public. The activity focuses on transforming abstract concepts into tangible elements, providing IMPA Tech students with a practical learning opportunity in design, production, simplification of complex topics, and scientific communication. The initiative leverages the established infrastructure of the IMPA store to validate the feasibility of marketing and distributing the created materials, with the goal of promoting the popularization of mathematics nationwide and providing students with experience in instructional design and educational entrepreneurship.

DELTA – Dynamic Educational Language for Teaching & Articles

This extension project focuses on simplifying the process of creating instructional materials and dynamic articles directly in the browser. The project involves the development of DELTA, a Web Components-based markup language that extends HTML with academic features such as theorem environments, LaTeX equations, and interactive quizzes. The project includes the implementation of a core JavaScript library, a CSS theme system, and the publication of a well-documented demo site, enabling professors and researchers to produce interactive content using a familiar syntax without relying on proprietary platforms.

Repository of Teaching Materials

Production of Open Educational Resources (OER) on Linear Algebra

Educational materials produced by IMPA Tech undergraduate students as part of the extension project “Production of Open Educational Resources (OER) on Linear Algebra.” The initiative aims to develop educational resources of high technical, textual, and visual quality, made available to the community free of charge through digital platforms. Each resource was conceived, designed, developed, and produced by the students themselves, with reviews conducted by their peers and by individuals who have earned degrees in mathematics or related fields. In addition to contributing to the academic development of the students involved, the project aims to expand access to mathematical knowledge, support teaching and learning processes, and promote the dissemination and popularization of mathematics nationwide.

Dedicated to learning, creating, and disseminating content about the Lean proof assistant, LEANification is an outreach project focused on producing publicly available educational materials for teaching this programming language and theorem formalization.
