Supervised Internship

Yes, the internship is a required component of the curriculum for graduation. To graduate, every IMPA Tech student must complete at least 300 hours of a Required Supervised Corporate Internship or a Project-Based Internship (Research Internship).

Any student who is regularly enrolled and active at IMPA Tech and who has passed at least 63% of the courses in the curriculum—a threshold typically reached in the second half of the third year.

IMPA Tech offers flexibility so that practical experience aligns with your career goals, providing two distinct options: Corporate Internships and Project-Based Internships. Students who wish to pursue an academic career or focus on research and development can count their Scientific Initiation (IC) activities toward their internship requirements, an equivalence fully guaranteed by the Internship Law (Law No. 11,788/2008). However, there is an important rule: Scientific Initiation (IC) only counts once you have passed 63% of your course’s required courses and must be registered with the Career and Internship Center (NCE). Register your IC as a Project-Based Internship using this form.

Keep in mind that IMPA Tech attracts significant interest from the technology sector, and it’s common for companies to reach out directly to our students; therefore, make sure to keep your resume and professional networks up to date at all times.

Congratulations on your achievement! The first step is to request the Internship Agreement (TCE) and the Activity Plan from the host company. Send the completed documents to carreiras.estagios@impatech.edu.br so we can begin the academic review and collect the institutional signatures. Remember that you may only begin your internship activities after all parties (the company, the student, and IMPA Tech) have signed the documents.

The company must have or enter into an agreement with IMPA Tech or with its affiliated integration partners. In addition, the internship activities must be directly related to your field of study. For this reason, the activity plan will be subject to approval by your program’s academic coordinator before final approval.

An integration agent is an entity that assists with the administrative process of the internship, acting as an intermediary between the student, the company, and the educational institution, in addition to managing insurance and documentation. Currently, IMPA Tech has an agreement in place with CIEE (Center for Business-School Integration), and students are prohibited from being charged any fees for the services provided by the integration agent.

No, not at all. An internship without a TCE signed by all parties is invalid under Law No. 11,788/2008. The absence of this document renders the internship invalid and may result in legal penalties for the company; furthermore, it will not count as an academic activity for you.

Under current law, the limit is 6 hours per day and 30 hours per week, to ensure that this activity does not interfere with your academic performance at IMPA Tech.

The average time required for the pedagogical review of the activity plan and the signing of the TCE is 15 business days after receipt of the email. Coordinate with the company to submit the documents well in advance of your start date.

Yes. In accordance with the law, the student must submit an Activity Report to the NCE every 6 months and a final report at the end of the contract, both signed by the internship supervisor at the company.

The maximum duration of an internship at the same company (host organization) is up to 2 years. The only exception to this rule is for students with disabilities (PCD), who may intern for a longer period at the same location. If your initial contract is for 6 months or 1 year, it may be renewed through an Addendum, provided that it does not exceed the total limit of 24 months.

Yes. An intern is entitled to 30 days of leave when the internship lasts one year or longer, preferably during academic break. If the internship is paid through a scholarship, the leave must also be paid. In cases where the internship lasts less than one year, the leave will be granted in proportion to the duration of the internship.

The Internship Law guarantees that, during periods of periodic or final academic evaluations, the internship workload must be reduced by at least half. The goal is to ensure your success on IMPA Tech exams. How to proceed: inform your supervisor at the company of your exam dates in advance (IMPA Tech publishes the calendar at the beginning of the academic year) to arrange how the reduction will be implemented.

Yes. Any change in your academic status—such as a leave of absence, withdrawal from the program, completion of your degree, or transfer to another educational institution—must be reported immediately to the internship provider.

Yes. The intern must be covered by personal accident insurance, which must be provided by the entity offering the internship, as stipulated in the Internship Agreement (TCE) and in current legislation.

The internship must be supervised by an academic advisor from the educational institution and by a supervisor from the organization providing the internship. This supervision is documented through the intern’s activity reports and the final approval of the internship.
