The show “Mother Outside the Box” delighted IMPA Tech students at the end of Sunday afternoon (28) at the Riachuelo Theater in downtown Rio de Janeiro. The cultural activity was promoted by the NAP (Psychopedagogical Support Center) and also offered tickets to IMPA’s postgraduate students, through the institute’s Teaching department.
The initiative is part of the undergraduate program, which aims to broaden young people’s cultural repertoire and social engagement. “Promoting these activities is a great opportunity to get out of the academic environment and have new experiences. The first time I saw a play was at one of these activities,” said student Pedro Paulo.
Staged by Miá Mello, the play recounts the difficulties, expectations and experiences of a contemporary mother. “[The plot tells] a plural story that captures the viewer and invites them to accompany the character in her moments of vulnerability, listen to her insecurities and laugh at the adversities that surround her. It’s a great play for reflecting on the maternal role and the difficulties faced throughout this process,” said the student.

It has been running for six years, with more than 200 performances and more than 120,000 spectators, and is inspired by the book of the same name by Thaís Vilarinho. The show is directed by Joana Lebreiro and has text by Cláudia Gomes. In Rio de Janeiro, there were only two performances this weekend. The show continues to tour the country.
The initiative is part of the cultural program promoted by IMPA Tech at weekends. Activities such as the participation of a street race in the center of Rio de Janeiro, going to the ballet “O Corsário”at the Municipal Theater of Rio de Janeiro, and physical education practices in the “Body and Mind in Motion” project.
“Cultural experiences contribute directly to broadening perspectives and favor the construction, reflection and perception of different points of view,” said NAP coordinator Cristina Ramos, who is one of those responsible for curating the activities.
