Applications for the bachelor’s degree in Mathematics of Technology and Innovation open on 5/11
29/10/2024

IMPA (Institute of Pure and Applied Mathematics) announced on Tuesday (29) the 2025 selection process for the IMPA Tech – the institute’s first undergraduate program. This will be the second class of the bachelor’s degree in Mathematics of Technology and Innovation. IMPA Tech offers free higher education, funded by the federal government through the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MCTI) and the Ministry of Education (MEC). Check out the announcement.
Registration opens next Tuesday, November 5, at 9 a.m., on the IMPA Tech. Up to 100 places will be available for students from all over Brazil interested in higher education with a focus on innovation and technological development.
“The selection process for the 2025 IMPA Tech class gives talented young people from all over Brazil the chance to access a degree of excellence with an innovative academic proposal,” says IMPA’s director-general, Marcelo Viana.
Located in Rio de Janeiro, at the Porto Maravalley innovation hub, in the city’s port area, the four-year bachelor’s degree is full-time. The curriculum is interdisciplinary and, after a basic cycle of one and a half years, students choose between four emphases: Mathematics, Computer Science, Data Science and Physics.
To attract students from all over Brazil, IMPA Tech offers student accommodation, provided by Rio’s city hall, and financial support. In addition, students approved in the final stage of the selection process will have their airfare to the start of the academic year in Rio de Janeiro covered by the institute.
Selection by knowledge olympiads or Enem
IMPA Tech’s selection process allocates 80% of the places to students with the best performance in five knowledge olympiads: OBMEP (Brazilian Public School Mathematics Olympiad) – level 3 / national award; OBM (Brazilian Mathematics Olympiad) – level 3; OBFEP (Brazilian Public School Physics Olympiad) – levels B and/or C National; OBQ (Brazilian Chemistry Olympiad) – modalities A and/or B; and OBI (Brazilian Computer Science Olympiad) – programming modality levels 1 and/or 2, high school only.
The remaining 20% is earmarked for the best-placed students in the Enem (National High School Exam) math test. Candidates must choose which category they wish to apply for: Olympiad or Enem.
Held in two stages, the selection process will also include group activities and individual interviews (online). As detailed in the notice, the undergraduate program will have openings for the general public and will also reserve a number of places for candidates from different quota groups.
The notice is available at impatech.impa.br. Registration begins on November 5 and runs until December 27. The list of 360 candidates selected for the second phase is scheduled to be published on January 21.
IMPA Tech aims to train students to enter the technology and innovation market effectively, working in areas such as artificial intelligence, machine learning, information security, etc. Another distinguishing feature of the degree is its strategic location. In addition to IMPA Tech, Porto Maravalley is home to startups and technology companies, creating an environment of innovation and collaboration between academia and the job market.
