IMPA Tech and PUC-Rio discuss academic partnership

The director general of IMPA, Marcelo Viana, and the rector of PUC-Rio, Professor Anderson Pedroso, discussed on Wednesday (27) proposals for cooperation between the two universities based on the development of integrated academic projects. The meeting took place on the occasion of the Pact for Innovation meeting, held at the Porto Maravalley technology hub. The group made up of academics, businesspeople and members of the public sector aims to integrate academic production and the job market, promoting economic development for Rio de Janeiro.
The meeting was attended by Alexandre Vermeulen, president of Invest.Rio, the city government’s investment promotion and attraction agency; Romildo Toledo, director of the UFRJ Technology Park; Daniel Barros, CEO of Maravalley; Cristiane Moura, senior manager at BIP Consultoria; among others. At Maravalley, the participants set collaborative goals and discussed new projects for the city.

In August, during Rio Innovation Week, the group signed the “Manifesto: Rio, Capital of Brazilian Technology and Innovation ” – a document that promises to transform Rio de Janeiro into an exponent of innovation in Brazil by strengthening the local technological ecosystem.
On the occasion, Viana spoke about the creation of IMPA Tech, the institute’s first degree program, which has an unprecedented curriculum in the country, and highlighted the strategic location of the campus. Based in Porto Maravalley, an innovation hub in the port region of Rio de Janeiro, the space will house more than 25 high-tech startups, companies and investors’ offices, bringing academia and the productive sector closer together.
