IMPA Tech Discusses Academic Cooperation with German Delegation
Representatives from Bavaria visited the undergraduate campus on Monday (28)
On Monday (28), IMPA Tech welcomed a delegation from BAYLAT (Bavarian University Center for Latin America). The visit focused on presenting the institute’s activities and identifying opportunities for academic and scientific cooperation with institutions in Bavaria, Germany.
The delegation included university officials and representatives from the Bavarian State Ministry of Science and the Arts. The German Consul General in Rio de Janeiro, Jan Freigang, and the director of DAAD Brazil (German Academic Exchange Service), Katharina Fourier, also attended the meeting.
During the visit, participants learned about the research history of IMPA, which will celebrate its 74th anniversary in October, and IMPA Tech, the institute’s undergraduate program that was launched in 2024. In addition to a roundtable discussion and networking session with faculty members from the Bachelor’s program in Mathematics, Technology, and Innovation, the delegation toured the campus facilities, including the library, classrooms, and computer and physics labs.

“IMPA Tech’s goal is to train professionals capable of tackling the mathematical challenges of the 21st century by applying concepts in various fields of technology and innovation,” said Marcelo Viana, IMPA’s director general.
Clemens Bulitta, president of OTH Amberg-Weiden – Technical University of Applied Sciences, represented the BAYLAT group and highlighted the institution’s role in fostering closer ties between universities in Bavaria and Latin America. “It is a pleasure for us to be here. It’s an opportunity to visit IMPA Tech and learn more about the institution’s work, with an eye toward potential collaboration between our universities. We want to learn and understand how your initiatives complement ours,” he said.
For Rafael Beraldo, IMPA Tech’s skills development manager, the meeting represents an opportunity to identify common interests. “We want to foster connections with German institutions and understand in which areas we can establish academic relationships, whether through research or exchange programs. It’s very important for us to expand our relationships globally, positioning IMPA Tech as an innovative undergraduate program connected to the world,” he said.
During the event, Carolina Magalhães, IMPA Tech’s coordinator of internationalization and extension, presented the undergraduate program, discussing the admissions process, the benefits offered to students, and the program’s nationwide reach. Students Bruno Pereira and Letícia Aleixo spoke about outreach projects and research collaborations with the private sector.

Connections that span borders
The search for new international partnerships is already part of IMPA Tech’s recent history. In September, 12 undergraduate students began a semester-long exchange program at Peking University (PKU) and Beihang University (BUAA) in China. The experience was made possible with the support of private partners, such as Fundação Estudar, Stone, and BRAVA. In addition, the exchange program operates in the opposite direction: six students from Beihang began a semester at IMPA Tech in August.
In recent weeks, the undergraduate program has also welcomed representatives from academic and scientific institutions in France and Germany. The meetings with the Institut DataIA Paris-Saclay and the Freie Universität Berlin focused on presenting the institutions and identifying opportunities for cooperation.
In this context, BAYLAT’s visit fosters dialogue with the German higher education system. The organization works to promote connections between institutions in Bavaria and Latin America, paving the way for new academic and scientific relationships.
