IMPA Tech featured on listThe IMPA Graduate Program, released by the Federal Government on Wednesday (22), includes 40 initiatives and actions that have improved Brazilian education since 2023. The IMPA (Institute of Pure and Applied Mathematics) degree program is funded by the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MCTI) and the Ministry of Education (MEC). Inaugurated in 2024 by President Lula, the free college is located in the port area of Rio de Janeiro.
More than 180 students from all over Brazil have already entered the Bachelor’s Degree in Mathematics of Technology and Innovation, which aims to train young people to enter the job market effectively. The higher education course has a basic cycle, followed by the choice of one of four emphases: Mathematics, Computer Science, Data Science and Physics.
The MEC’s selection brings together 40 programs and initiatives adopted since January 2023. The list was requested from the Minister of Education, Camilo Santana, by President Lula on ceremony celebrating Teachers’ Day on October 15. “Education is that path that we point to and see a light at the end of the tunnel. Our government will not lack attitude to improve education in this country,” said the president during the ceremony.
IMPA Tech didn’t gain prominence for nothing. Young Brazilians from 23 Brazilian states attend the college in Rio de Janeiro, which offers student accommodation and financial and food aid. Students are selected based on their performance in knowledge olympiads, such as the OBMEP (Brazilian Public School Mathematics Olympiad) – the largest scientific competition in the country, also promoted by IMPA – or on their math score in the Enem (National High School Exam).
“We continue to grow and attract talent from all over Brazil, reaffirming our commitment to training excellence and advancement in the area of Mathematics, Technology and Innovation,” said IMPA Tech’s academic manager, Nara Bobko. The expectation for 2026 is to grow even more. The call for applications for the new graduating class, which will select up to 100 students, will be launched this Friday (24). Applications open on November 3rd at undergraduate website.
Another distinguishing feature of the bachelor’s degree is the location of the campus, which shares the space of Rio de Janeiro City Hall’s technology hub, Porto Maravalley, with 70 companies and 45 resident startups. Students are trained in an environment of innovation and collaboration between academia and the job market.
In addition to IMPA Tech, the “All Mathematics National Commitment is another initiative from the exact sciences highlighted in the list. The program, announced during the 19th OBMEP National Awards Ceremony in June this year, promotes the continuous improvement of students’ academic performance and learning outcomes in mathematics.
