IMPA Tech opens registration for the 2026 graduating class
Young people from all over Brazil can apply until 12 noon on December 23rd
With an interdisciplinary and innovative curriculum, IMPA Tech, the undergraduate program of IMPA (Institute of Pure and Applied Mathematics), opened on Monday (3) registration for the 2026 selection process. Students interested in joining the bachelor’s degree in Mathematics of Technology and Innovation have until 12 noon on December 23 to complete their application on the college’s website.
Up to 100 places will be offered to students from all over Brazil who have already finished high school. This will be the third class of the free college, inaugurated in 2024 and funded by the federal government. Among the differentials offered are benefits such as accommodation and a scholarship, and the reservation of places for medal winners from five scientific Olympiads. Check out the complete notice.
Located in Rio de Janeiro’s port area, in the Porto Maravalley innovation hub, the four-year bachelor’s degree is full-time. The curriculum is interdisciplinary and, after a basic cycle, students choose between four emphases: Mathematics, Computer Science, Data Science and Physics.
“IMPA Tech is our response to the challenge of training highly qualified professionals for the technology and innovation market, capable of using the cutting-edge tools of mathematics to solve problems in Brazil today,” said IMPA’s director-general, Marcelo Viana.
The bachelor’s curriculum was designed to train students to enter the technology and innovation market effectively, working in areas such as artificial intelligence, machine learninginformation security, etc. In addition to the undergraduate program, Porto Maravalley is home to 70 companies and 45 resident startups, creating an environment of innovation and collaboration between academia and the job market.
Benefits for students
To attract students from all over Brazil, IMPA Tech offers student accommodation, provided by Rio’s city hall, a food allowance and financial aid. In addition, the young people approved in the final stage of the selection process will have their airfare to the start of the academic year in Rio de Janeiro covered by the Institute.
Beatriz Nunes left the north of the country, from Rio Branco (AC), to be part of the first graduating class, which started in 2024. “I never imagined that I would have the opportunity to study in Rio de Janeiro. It’s been a process of constant evolution. The institution offers much more than I expected, and I feel privileged to be with colleagues and teachers who have vast experience in different areas.”
Selection by knowledge olympiads or Enem
IMPA Tech’s selection process allocates up to 80% of the places to students with the best performance in five knowledge olympiads: OBMEP (Brazilian Public School Mathematics Olympiad) – level 3 / national award; OBM (Brazilian Mathematics Olympiad) – level 3; OBFEP (Brazilian Public School Physics Olympiad) – levels B and/or C National; OBQ (Brazilian Chemistry Olympiad) – modalities A and/or B; and OBI (Brazilian Computer Science Olympiad) – programming modality levels 1 and/or 2, high school only.
The remaining 20% is earmarked for the best-placed students in the Enem (National High School Exam) math test. Candidates must choose which category they wish to apply for: Olympiad or Enem.
Held in two stages, the selection process will also include group activities and individual interviews (online). As detailed in the notice, the undergraduate program will have openings for the general public as well as will reserve a quantity for candidates distributed in different quota groups, such as affirmative and female.
