The Institute of Pure and Applied Mathematics (IMPA) announced on Tuesday (23) the qualifiers for the 2nd phase of the selection process for IMPA Tech – the institute’s first undergraduate course. The selected students will take part in individual and group interviews, which will determine the list of those approved for the course. The results will be announced on February 19.
“We are completing another important stage in the creation of IMPA’s undergraduate program, and we are working hard for the grand opening of IMPA Tech on April 2,” says Marcelo Viana, the institute’s director-general.

The first phase of the selection process for the bachelor’s degree course in Mathematics in Technology and Innovation took into account the performance of students in five knowledge olympiads: OBMEP (Brazilian Public School Mathematics Olympiad), promoted by IMPA; OBM (Brazilian Mathematics Olympiad); OBF (Brazilian Physics Olympiad); OBQ (Brazilian Chemistry Olympiad) and OBI (Brazilian Computer Science Olympiad). The competition reserved up to 80% of the places for students who had excelled in scientific competitions. A further 20% was allocated to students with the best marks in the Enem (National High School Exam).

IMPA has nine events confirmed for 2024
Based at Porto Maravalley, a technology hub developed by Rio de Janeiro City Hall in the city’s port area, the degree course will be entirely free and financed with funds from the Ministries of Education and Science, Technology and Innovation. The approval will also guarantee students student accommodation (for those over 18) and financial support.

The degree lasts four years. Initially, students will study a basic cycle and will then be able to choose between emphases in Mathematics, Data Science, Computer Science or Physics. The aim is to train highly qualified young people for the technology and innovation job market, working in areas such as artificial intelligence, machine learning, big data and others.
The location of the course is also strategic. In addition to IMPA Tech, Porto Maravalley will be home to startups and technology companies, creating an environment for innovation and collaboration.
