The Institute of Pure and Applied Mathematics (IMPA) released on Monday (3) the list of the 100 qualified candidates for the new class of IMPA Tech, a degree course in Mathematics of Technology and Innovation. Check it out here.
To secure a place on the bachelor’s course, students must send the documentation required in the notice between February 10th and 13th. The registration period closes at 5pm on February 13th.
IMPA Tech allocates places to the general public and provides a reserve for candidates from different quota groups, as detailed in the notice. The selection process took into account the candidates’ performance in the five knowledge olympiads: OBMEP (Brazilian Public School Mathematics Olympiad); OBM (Brazilian Mathematics Olympiad); OBFEP (Brazilian Public School Physics Olympiad); OBQ (Brazilian Chemistry Olympiad) and OBI (Brazilian Computer Science Olympiad) or in the Enem mathematics grade. In the second phase of the process, candidates took part in virtual interviews.
Inaugurated last year, IMPA Tech is an innovative initiative that seeks to train highly qualified professionals in mathematics and technology for the job market. The degree program is funded by the Federal Government through the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MCTI) and the Ministry of Education (MEC). In addition to providing quality higher education free of charge, the program offers financial aid and student accommodation for those over 18, in a partnership with Rio de Janeiro City Hall.
Classes start in March
With classes scheduled to start on March 17, students will begin their bachelor’s degree with a one-year basic cycle. Subsequently, they will have to choose between four emphases: Mathematics, Computer Science, Data Science and Physics. The transdisciplinary curriculum guarantees plenty of practical activities right from the start.
IMPA Tech’s location is another differentiator. The school is located in Porto Maravalley, a technology hub created by Rio City Hall in the port area to house companies and startups.
