The Piauí Strategic Investment Attraction Agency (Investe Piauí) paid a visit to the IMPA Tech facilities on Thursday (24). The visit to the space is part of a partnership project between IMPA and the state government, which has adopted investment actions in the area of education, technology and innovation in the Northeast region.
The meeting comes two months after Viana met with Piauí governor Rafael Fonteles, who also holds a master’s degree in Mathematical Economics from IMPA, and has been working to get the “Teresina Technology Park” – a space that will house technology companies and startups – off the ground. The aim is to further promote economic development in the region, which is already home to the Technology Institute (PIT), maintained by Investe Piauí.
At IMPA Tech, Raquel Carvalho, the agency’s head of strategic projects and infrastructure, and Élida Damasceno, urban planning advisor, visited the laboratories, classrooms, meeting spaces, library and psychological care center (NAP). They were welcomed by IMPA’s director-general, Marcelo Viana, IMPA Tech’s administrative and financial manager, Francisco Silva, the operations coordinator, Leonardo Mendonça, and the IT support coordinator, Marcos Amaral.
“We came to Rio de Janeiro to talk to the IMPA Tech team. The main objective was to understand the needs related to technology facilities and the operation of some spaces and laboratories. We are also trying to assess the equipment that needs to be provided for in our project, and thinking about the experiences that need to be adjusted to this reality,” explained Raquel Carvalho.
Inaugurated in 2024, IMPA Tech offers a bachelor’s degree in Mathematics for Technology and Innovation, a pioneering degree that prepares students to effectively enter the job market. Based in Porto Maravalley, a technology hub developed by Rio’s city government, the degree offers a curriculum of excellence with a strong connection to the economic sector.
With partnership underway, Investe Piauí visits IMPA Tech on Thursday (24)
Strategic investment team visited facilities in Maravalley
A 10,000 m² shed, a large social hall, four laboratories, classrooms, meeting spaces, a library and a psychological care center are some of the environments that make up IMPA Tech. The beauty and authenticity of the space in Porto Maravalley – which was provided by Rio de Janeiro City Hall – is nothing new. This Thursday (24), the Piauí Strategic Investment Attraction Agency (Investe Piauí) had the opportunity to take a closer look at the undergraduate facility, considering much more than aesthetics. This is the group’s first visit to the institute as part of the IMPA Tech expansion project for the Northeast region.
The initiative is part of the implementation of the “Teresina Technology Park” by the Piauí State Government, which seeks to bring together startups in the field of technology and innovation in the region. Currently, Investe Piauí already runs the Piauí Institute of Technology (PIT). The new park, as well as the possible partnership with IMPA Tech, are proposals by the governor of the state of Piauí, Rafael Fonteles, who also holds a master’s degree in Mathematical Economics from IMPA.
“We came to Rio de Janeiro to talk to the IMPA Tech team. The main objective was to understand the limitations and needs related to technology facilities and the operation of some laboratory spaces. We are also trying to assess the equipment that needs to be included in our project, and thinking about the experiences that need to be adjusted to this reality,” explained Raquel Carvalho, head of strategic projects and infrastructure at Investe Piauí.
The first meeting on the subject took place in February this year and brought together Marcelo Viana, director-general of IMPA, governor Rafael Fonteles and the president of FAPEPI (Piauí Research Support Foundation), João Xavier da Cruz. During Tuesday’s visit, Investe Piauí was represented by Raquel Carvalho and Élida Damasceno, urban planning advisor. They were welcomed by Francisco Silva, IMPA Tech’s administrative and financial manager, Leonardo Mendonça, operations coordinator, and Marcos Amaral, IT support coordinator. The event included a guided tour of the Porto Maravalley space followed by an internal alignment meeting.
