‘It’s good to see the world through the eyes of art’, says student about show
Undergraduates attended a performance by the Deborah Colker Dance Company on Sunday (7)
“It’s good to see the world through the eyes of art,” said graduate student Nicole Freire about the external cultural activities offered by IMPA Tech. This Sunday (7), the program chosen was the show “Remix”, by the Deborah Colker Dance Company, at the Municipal Theater of Rio de Janeiro, in the city center. Divided into two acts, the performance recovers four shows from the company’s repertoire with a creative and sensitive aesthetic, in one of the city’s most emblematic buildings.
The show brings together choreographies from “Vulcão”, “Belle”, “4×4” and “Rota”, hits created by the group over 32 years of artistic activity. Created in 1994, the dance company from Rio has won international awards, including the Prix Benois de la Danse in Moscow, the most important in its category.
Nicole, from class 2025, is a regular at the activities, which are promoted by the undergraduate Psychopedagogical Support Center (NAP). “It was wonderful. I was able to get to know different expressions of the choreographer’s work. The talent of the dancers is indisputable. What they do in the show is breathtaking and you can’t take your eyes off the stage. These tours are important because they contribute to our cultural education,” she said.
The dance performance also marked the first time some students had been to Rio’s Municipal Theater, as was the case with Luciano Rodrigues, from class 2026. “Since I arrived at IMPA Tech, I’ve started going to cultural venues. These outings encourage us to learn more about art and promote good interaction with fellow students,” he said.
Inaugurated in 1909, the theater has more than a century of history and is a landmark of Rio’s culture. International artists and leading Brazilian names in dance, music and opera have performed on its stage, consolidating the venue as one of the country’s main concert halls.
For Rodrigues, the Deborah Colker company’s performance was ‘mesmerizing’. “I didn’t know the group’s work, but it’s possible to understand the acts in the show and make reflections. What was most striking was the way the dance interacts with the environment, such as the curtain and the vases,” he said.
