MAG Group joins IMPA Tech’s Industrial Challenges
Students collaborate on key issues in the insurance market
The Industrial Challenges IMPA Tech has been bringing together students from the Bachelor of Mathematics in Technology and Innovation to solve real demands from the job market. The activity, which works as an extension course, has gained a new partner company for the second cycle of challenges: IMPA Tech. MAG Groupa life and pension company.
On Thursday (26), Paula Silva, superintendent of Architecture and Technological Transformation at MAG Group, presented the two challenges proposed by the company to the undergraduates. If they are selected for the activities, the young people will work on key issues in the insurance market, including pricing tasks, financial longevity and claims risk.
Student Igor Roberto Alves was interested in the questions presented. “We can certainly have a considerable impact on solving MAG’s challenges. I’m thinking of taking part, especially because of the integration with a large company and the possibility of a subsequent internship,” he said.
The aim is for the activity to also function as a preparatory phase for the internship – which can be carried out from the final term of the second year – as well as opening up a space for students and companies to get to know each other and evaluate each other. The project is a compulsory curricular component in the Data Science and Computer Science emphases.

Other partners are also taking part in the challenges. A IplanRioa technology company owned by Rio de Janeiro City Hall, and Inoawhich specializes in critical systems for the capital market, have been developing projects since February, when the first cycle.
Student Pablo Cerqueira is taking part in the Industrial Challenge with Inoa. “It’s been a really fun experience, which has become unforgettable and will be one of the pillars of my professional training. To program, we mostly use the C# language. As well as the technical side, I’ve learned a little about what it’s like to work as a programmer in the job market. It’s not just about programming, but also about attending meetings, helping colleagues and making new connections,” he said.
In the project, Cerqueira contributed to the development of a module aimed at reading and organizing investment fund portfolios made available by the CVM (Securities and Exchange Commission). “The beginning was challenging, as I still didn’t know the architecture of the project and didn’t know how the files related to each other. But after a few meetings, everything started to become clearer and things were a lot of fun,” he said.
In each activity, the students use the companies’ internal ecosystem, adapting to the programming languages, work environment and tools available. The challenges are structured in the format of an extended hackathon, in which the students are accompanied by a company representative and guided by an IMPA Tech professor.
A new edition of the Industrial Challenge is planned for early 2027, with the selection of partner institutions taking place in mid-August 2026. Interested companies can contact parcerias@impatech.edu.br.
