The Mathematics of Technology and Innovation undergraduates were welcomed on Monday (6) at Maravalley Port with a meeting about the emphases of the bachelor’s degree. Asla Sá, academic manager, Thais Corrêa, skills development manager, and Eduardo Suterlande, career and internship coordinator at IMPA Tech, welcomed the students and explained the differences between the four emphases: Mathematics, Physics, Data Science and Computer Science.
Thais highlighted the interdisciplinary approach of the IMPA Tech curriculum. “The pedagogical project understands the needs of the market when we think about these areas. It’s no use knowing a lot about math and data if you don’t know how to communicate or speak English. Humanities and languages are fundamental for behavioral development and for your future in the job market,” he said.
Later this month, the students in the first cohort will have to choose one of the four training options, which will continue the studies developed during the basic cycle, which ends in February. The meeting, organized by the Careers and Internships Centre, covered the possibilities of working in the job market and the areas of academic research that each emphasis has. It was also an opportunity to answer questions about the new cycle that will be starting soon.
“Our main goal is to support you, whether through the NAP (Psychopedagogical Support Center), with psychological support, or through the NCE (Careers and Internships Center), thinking about your professional development,” added Thais.

For student Pedro Henrique Barbosa, the meeting was important to understand more about the possibilities of the degree. “We presented projects and opportunities and how each emphasis can be applied in the job market and in the academic area. Today’s talks were fundamental in helping me make my choice,” he said.
Next week, the NCE will hold two more meetings to explain more details about the emphases. Professors Lucas Nissenbaum, Milton Jara, Ueverton Souza and Claudio Lenz, who coordinate the emphases, will take part in the meetings scheduled for January 13 and 15.
