The workshop “Sport: body and mind in motion” brought together the students of the Bachelor’s Degree in Mathematics of Technology and Innovation in the auditorium of Porto Maravalley, after classes on Wednesday (5). The activity was organized by the Psychopedagogical Support Center (NAP) and addressed the benefits of sport for physical, emotional and social development. After a round of talks, the undergraduates had fun and exercised.
Renato Nabuco, a physical education professional with experience in managing behavioral and human development programs, spoke to the students about the importance of sport in everyday life. “Quality of life is about having a bit more balance and taking care of our health. Yes, health, in the plural. We need to take care of our physical, mental, spiritual and social health and physical activity is a fundamental ally,” he said.
The professional showed the students the different ways of exercising and the importance of experimentation. “There’s no right or wrong activity, there’s the one you identify with the most. You can choose any activity. Moving is important for intellectual development, improves social interaction and releases energy,” he added.
After the talk, the young people were divided into groups for practical experiences. Motor coordination, speed and reaction capacity exercises were carried out with the students. The aim of the dynamic was to show how sport can be an ally for health, a tool for social integration and a fun way to relax the body after an intense study routine.

The initiative for the activity came from student Italo Santos, who suggested the topic to NAP. “Sport is important for human health and it also breaks up the total study climate we’re in. I thought the meeting was very good,” he said.
For Letícia Aleixo, the activity was an opportunity to relax. “I really enjoyed it. Sport is interesting, it helps socially and integrates the students. Today we got out of the routine a bit and did something dynamic that involves more than just math.”
Nabuco closed the meeting by emphasizing the importance of self-responsibility in health care. “We have choices. The ‘magic pill’ of health combines diet, training, constancy and patience. Our brains like quick rewards, which is why it’s easier to stay on social media, lying in bed, than doing physical activity, but we need to take this ‘pill’ and move our bodies,” he said.
