Retrospective 2025: culture and sport marked the students’ year
NAP activities broaden repertoires and promote integration
Who says mathematicians only have time to study? Throughout 2025, IMPA Tech’s cultural and sporting activities have shown that fun, theater and running also fit into the intense academic routine of undergraduates. The NAP (Psychopedagogical Support Center) promoted trips to the theater, supported sports and took young people to the traditional museums of the Marvelous City.
Several plays have brought students together at weekends, offering a breather between exams and assignments. In February, the musical play ” Martinho, Heart of the King“, at the Riachuelo Theater, in the center of Rio de Janeiro, brought the atmosphere of Carnival with lots of music and joy. The show celebrates the history of samba and the career of Martinho da Vila, an icon of Brazilian popular music.
In April, mathematics also took to the stage. At the Casa Grande Theater, the magic show by Henry Vargas and Klauss Durãesconsidered the “greatest illusionists in Latin America”, showed how logic can surprise and amuse. Humor, on the other hand, was provided by the shows ” Mother Outside the Box” e “Duets“, both at the Riachuelo Theater. The stories narrate the difficulties, expectations and experiences of the contemporary mother and also bring the humor of the chaotic world of modern relationships.
The NAP events marked many students’ first time at the theater, as Yasmin de Barros said. “I came from a small town in the interior of Paraíba. I didn’t have much incentive or time to go to the theater. I was delighted by how big and beautiful everything is,” she said. Undergraduate Pedro Paulo also had his first experience in Rio. “Promoting these activities is a great opportunity to get out of the academic environment and have new experiences. It was great!” he said.
Sports activities were also a feature of the school year. In May, the youngsters challenged themselves in the Cury Circuitin Porto Maravilha. In September, it was time to get to know the center of Rio on the move, during the Cinelândia 2025 stage of the Old Rio CircuitThey also visited tourist attractions such as the Municipal Theater and the National Library. In October, the undergraduates visited the Maracanã Stadiumthe traditional temple of soccer in Rio de Janeiro. There, they visited the changing rooms, the pitch and the historical exhibition, which brings together memorabilia from Brazilian soccer.
Astronomy has also made its way onto the extracurricular agenda – and into the hearts – of students. A visit to MAST (Museum of Astronomy and Related Sciences), in São Cristóvão, took the students on a journey through time and the cosmos. During the observation of the sky, the star cluster NGC 4755, known as the “Jewel Box”, was the highlight of the evening.
These were not the only cultural and sporting activities promoted throughout 2025. In addition to the events highlighted above, the students also watched the show ” Cordel’s Enchanted Dream” at the João Caetano Theater, the ballet “The Corsair” at Rio’s Municipal Theater, and participated in physical activity workshops at Porto Maravalley, further broadening their experiences on and off campus.
“The opportunities offered by the NAP are very good. Every time there’s an activity, I sign up because I think it’s a lot of fun. It’s a chance to take a walk and get out of the routine,” said student Bianca Moreno. For Dulce Costa, the activities complement her academic training. “I believe that one of the great differentials of IMPA Tech is precisely that it provides, in addition to high-quality teaching, experiences that develop our cultural and artistic sensitivity,” she said.
