Retrospective 2025: IMPA Tech signs strategic academic partnerships
New alliances consolidate undergraduate multidisciplinary training
Scientific collaboration is one of the pillars for tackling today’s technological challenges. Since its inauguration in 2024, IMPA Tech has been building a network of strategic partnerships that reinforces its mission to offer multidisciplinary training connected to the world. In 2025, the institute significantly expanded its links with Brazilian and international institutions, opening up new academic and professional possibilities for students. Below are the main highlights of IMPA Tech’s 2025 Retrospective.
Collaboration with the UFRJ Physics Institute The Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (IF-UFRJ) has taken another step forward this year, with the start of classes in the Physics emphasis of the bachelor’s degree in Mathematics for Technology and Innovation. The subjects are taught by IF-UFRJ professors at Porto Maravalley, which allows students to interact with researchers from different fields. The partnership also expands opportunities for national student mobility, which is especially encouraged in the final years of undergraduate studies.
Another important milestone was the start of collaboration with the Confucius Institute of PUC-Rio (Pontifical Catholic University of Rio de Janeiro), in June, when the Dragon Boat Festival introduced Chinese culture to IMPA Tech classrooms. The agreement promotes the dissemination of Chinese language and culture and has already resulted in the Mandarin extension courseThe program started in August. Language learning aims to broaden the students’ professional opportunities and open doors to future exchanges.
In November, the partnership with Serrapilheira Institute produced its first fruit: the presentation of the Training in Quantitative Ecology 2026 to the students of the Bachelor’s Degree in Mathematics of Technology and Innovation. The theoretical meetings of the training – in January next year – will take place in the classrooms of IMPA Tech, in Port Maravalley, allowing interaction between undergraduates and researchers from all over the country.

Finally, in December, a cooperation agreement with Coppe/UFRJ which allows IMPA Tech students to take courses, work in laboratories and take part in research projects at Coppe, expanding the link between undergraduate and graduate programs. Students on the bachelor’s degree in Mathematics of Technology and Innovation, with an emphasis on Computer Science, will be able to complete part of the six elective courses and 300 hours of supervised internship in Coppe programs, especially in the Systems and Computer Engineering Program (PESC). The first classes are expected to be in the halls of UFRJ’s engineering center from March 2026. UFRJ undergraduate students linked to Coppe will also have access to subjects offered by IMPA’s undergraduate program at Maravalley Port.
In addition to national academic cooperation, IMPA Tech has institutional partnerships with international universities such as Beihang University, Peking University and Hebei University. The agreements aim to deepen collaboration in teaching, training and scientific research, promoting multilateral benefits and strengthening the institute’s internationalization.
