The public can now pick up free tickets for FestMat
Organized by IMPA, the Mathematics Festival will take place August 27–30 in Rio
Mathematics and pop culture are set to come together from August 27 to 30 in Rio de Janeiro. The National Mathematics Festival (FestMat) Registration opened this Tuesday (30) for its 4th edition, which will take place over four days at Axia Marina da Glória. Organized by IMPA (Institute of Pure and Applied Mathematics), the free event features exhibits, games, challenges, lectures, and artistic performances, inviting children, teens, and adults to explore mathematics in an interactive, creative way that relates to everyday life.
Registration for the general public is now open for August 29 and 30 on the event website. To pick up your tickets, you must register in IMPA’s institutional system, select the date and time of your visit, and enter the participants’ personal information. Each registrant may register up to 5 people per CPF. Once the registration is validated, an email will be sent confirming your registration and including a QR code to be presented at the event entrance.
With the theme “Math Is Cool – Discover the Worlds of Math”, the 2026 edition uses the language of comics to guide visitors on a journey of exploration and discovery. Throughout the visit, the public will be able to explore six themed worlds, featuring experiences related to algebra, geometry, logic, dynamics, randomness, and arithmetic.
“Math is cool, math is fun! That’s the idea behind FestMat 2026, the fourth edition of this great initiative that highlights math as a source of fun and entertainment,” said Marcelo Viana, director-general of IMPA.
The program was designed to show how mathematics is present in a wide variety of fields of knowledge and in everyday life, combining learning, culture, and entertainment in activities geared toward all ages.
The 27th and 28th are reserved exclusively for school visits, and there are still spots available. Public and private institutions that have been selected through the registration process will receive their access QR code via email. Please send any questions to the email address visitacao@festivaldamatematica.org.br.
Since its inception, FestMat has welcomed more than 53,000 visitors over four editions (2017, 2022, and 2024) and has established itself as one of the country’s leading events for promoting mathematics. The Festival presents mathematics as a living, accessible subject that is present in everyday life, bringing science closer to the public and stimulating curiosity and discovery.
