Viana receives MAG vice-president and strengthens institutional partnership
Insurance company is one of the sponsors of IMPA Tech
Marcelo Viana, director-general of IMPA, received the vice-president of MAG InsuranceLeonardo Lourenço, on Wednesday (27) at IMPA Tech. The visit reinforced the institutional partnership between the company and the undergraduate program, bringing the students even closer to the corporate world. Accompanied by leaders from the technology, marketing and people management areas, Lourenço visited the facilities at Porto Maravalley, including the classrooms and the computer and physics laboratories in Rio de Janeiro’s port area.
MAG, a company in the life and pension segments, is one of the partners of IMPA’s undergraduate program, supporting academic initiatives and activities that bring students of the bachelor’s degree in Mathematics closer to the Technology and Innovation of the job market. To symbolize the institutional partnership, one of the spaces on campus was adhered with the company’s brand.
“It’s a pleasure to welcome the MAG team and to continue this partnership. It’s a long-term relationship that we’re building every day, looking for points of common interest,” said Viana.
Lourenço described the visit as very enriching. “It’s impressive to see people here who not only stand out, but who are aware of their role in society. We are very honored to be part of this ecosystem as IMPA Tech partners,” he said.
The MAG delegation also included Patrícia Campos, People and Management director; Erika de Oliveira, Employee Experience manager; and Luís Fontes, Technology director.
“The best investment a company can make is in education, because we all win. Education is not a priority, it’s a premise for a country that wants to grow, for a nation that wants to be strong. We see here a wealth of people from different regions who know how to respect each other, who study, have points of knowledge and interests in common, but also have so many differences…”, said Patrícia.
Among the fruits of the partnership are the Industrial ChallengesHackathon: activities in the form of a hackathon in which undergraduates solve real company issues using mathematical tools. The challenge works as an extension course of the bachelor’s degree and is a compulsory curricular component in the Data Science and Computer Science emphases.
Since March, MAG has presented two challenges to the students, involving central themes of the insurance market, such as pricing, financial longevity and claims risk modeling.
“We brought real projects from the company: one linked to productivity and technology and another that is very specific to the insurance market, which is about modeling claims. These are problems that are dealt with in a very traditional way and, for sure, the minds that are here will be able to bring us other perspectives. We’re looking forward to the results,” said Lourenço.

Eliani Beloni, a student in class 2024, is one of the young people involved in the project. “Our aim is to use data analysis to understand what really drives the productivity of corporate teams. The challenge has been an excellent bridge between the classroom and the job market. Being in direct contact with the company on a weekly basis, using industry tools like Databricks, has been a great learning experience,” she said.
IMPA Tech’s interdisciplinary training aims to prepare students for a job market that increasingly demands technical skills and interpersonal abilities. Institutional partnerships with companies bring undergraduates closer to everyday corporate life and broaden the possibilities for practical training.
The collaboration with MAG was also highlighted in the press. The story “Insurance market requires new mix of skills”in the newspaper Valor Econômico, highlighted the transformations in the insurance sector. “The insurance market in Brazil is going through a period of expansion and transformation, driven by advances in technology, the emergence of new risks and changes in consumer behavior. This scenario expands job opportunities and redefines the ways to enter and grow in one’s career,” reads an excerpt from the article.
The vehicle heard from IMPA Tech’s skills development manager, Rafael Beraldo, who detailed the joint activities. “Currently, our partnership is in the educational sphere, with industrial challenges, as well as offering content, lectures and activities on financial planning, longevity and personal development,” Beraldo told Valor.
In addition to MAG Seguros, other companies maintain institutional partnerships and sponsor undergraduate spaces, such as Stone, Inoa and Fundação Brava. Institutions interested in collaborating with IMPA Tech can contact parcerias@impatech.edu.br.
